Accelerate mouse wheel scrolling in Firefox

Steps:

  1. In the address bar type about:config and press enter.
  2. Accept the risk involved while making changes.
  3. Search for mousewheel.acceleration.start
  4. By default its value should be -1 which indicates the option is disabled. To enable, change its value to 0 by double-clicking on it.

Why?

Comparing to Google Chrome, Firefox has very slow scrolling speed for web pages. It is smoother than Chrome but not just fast enough. So I usually go for the scroll bar, which needs little more effort. Move the cursor to grab that scroll stick and drag the mouse up & down.

Scrolling with the mouse wheel is very easy and convenient. You can also click the wheel button and drag the mouse in all angles (only if you have enabled auto-scrolling). Even more convenient to move around the lengthy web pages.

Smooth scrolling

This is one of many things I love about Firefox. Chrome’s scrolling pace is fast enough by default. But not as smooth as of Firefox. Check if your Firefox has smooth scrolling enabled. If not, enable it now. It makes web page scrolling more smooth.

Bonus tip

You can customise the acceleration pace by changing the value mousewheel.acceleration.factor and see what rate of acceleration is right for you. You can always change the values back to default just by right clicking on them and selecting Reset option.

I think they should add this as a check option under Browsing section of Firefox’s options/preferences.
